Roy's Bio

I entered endurance sports late in life with only 4 years of experience. I grew up wrestling for the best high school program in the country, Brandon HS. Our program went 37 years without a single loss which is the longest winning streak in all of sports. Being part of this program I learned a great deal about sports performance and what it takes to be successful. I was fortunate to get a chance to work along side many Olympians and learn what it takes to be the very best.

My initial entry into endurance sports started with triathlons and currently I am putting my focus on cycling. Like many I was looking for a way to stay healthy,  have fun and compete.   In a short period of time I have been able to reduce the learning curve by becoming a student of the sport.  After college I built a career in the insurance business spending a long 15 years in a cubicle completing TPS reports.  I left this career to following something I have a passion for by becoming a coach.  I started on this journey by going to the Retul fit school in Denver Colorado to train under one of the best fitters in the country, Todd Carver.   Over the last two years I have had the chance to work with Specializes BG, Retul and Guru fit systems.   In addition, to these systems I have been able to integrate knowledge I learned from wind tunnel testing into my fittings to help athlete become more efficient.   I currently work at St Pete Bike and Fitness as their professional fitter.

After working with Jeb he offered me a chance to come onboard with Endurofit as a coach.   For me this is the chance to help others achieve their goals and to succeed in a sport that they have a passion for.  I am looking forward to working with all levels of athletes from the person who wants to lose a few pounds, finish a 5k, do a charity ride or the person who wants to compete at the highest level.  My approach to coaching is one where I use technology such as performance testing, heart rate and power to track progress.  I use experience and feedback from each athlete to help guide me in designing a winning program.  The final piece of my approach is the mental approach to training and competing at all levels.   When working with athletes I believe the base of the program is building a solid mental foundation.   Once a athlete has a solid base the program will take care of itself if the base falls apart so does the program.

Testimonial

"Roy, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to answer my questions and the help you gave me, and most importantly for the benefits I received from you with my time trial training and the GURU fit you did for me.  By doing what you outlined for me, it was great to see what I would call substantial improvements in my cycling in a relatively short period of time.  I did the same race 8 times at Ft Desoto and the final one I was over a minute faster than my best time and three minutes faster than my first time trial. That for me was a great accomplishment.  Not only did my overall times come down and my average speed increased  I felt more efficient and comfortable on the bike.  I look forward to following your advice during the off season and continuing the training to make additional improvements for next year.  Once again thank you for all of your help.  I did get my best time because of you."
